I think this is such a neat way to pay tribute to an antique piece while still expressing your funky modern style. I have a huge mirror with an ornate gold frame around it. I purchased 2 cans of purple automobile paint that I will use to transform this overly classy piece into a wonderful mirror for my little Salamanders room. If I ever come across a dresser like this one pictured I will immediately paint it.

Here is a fantastic site that shows you step by step instructions for silk screening a t-shirt. I wish I would have found that out before I signed up for a class. The class costs $125.00 and I could not make it through it. The instructor was such a bore and little miss my parents signed me up for this class so they could get a break from me because I am a spoiled rotten 30 year old women who still acts and dresses like a 16 year old girl drove me insane! Plus it was in a studio with no heat or chairs. Trust me- I'm not high maintenance but for $125.00 a little hospitality is nice. Nope- couldn't get through it....

1. Cut a 2" x 5" strip of cardstock. Score at 2", 2-1/4", and 4-1/2". Fold into a matchbook shape. For the pages, cut 1-3/4" x 2" squares of paper (use a paper trimmer for best results).
2. Place the stack of papers on the carstock, fold the bottom flap up over the papers and secure with a staple (leaving room for the top flap to tuck in). Decorate the cover as desired.
3. Put a few matchbook notebooks in a little bag along with some golf pencils for a cute and easy "thinking of you" gift.

Look Closely, this piece is done using torn pieces of papers from newspapers and magazines. If you take enough crazy pills you could probably do something like this for yourself. Maybe do a self portrait or one of your beautiful Salamander....

These cards by Lisa Solomon are just the sweetest thing I've seen in awhile. What a perfect way to use up those paint cards that are laying around and maybe send someone a personalized greeting!

Why didn't I think of this? Its a great gift for anyone who likes to garden. It doesn't have to be a gun, it could be from another mold that you may have laying around. This is what they used:
*Plaster Mold of 9mm 910 Pistol
*Red Clay Powder
*Dry Organic Humus Compost
*Water
*Seed Mixture of Annual & Perennial Species Native & Naturalized to the Region; Maltese Cross, Annual Baby's Breath, Dwarf Cornflower, Shasta Daisy, Siberian Wallflower, Lance-leaved Coreopsis, European Columbine, Foxglove, Purple Coneflower, Indian Blanket, Spurred Snapdragon, Dense Blazing Star, Scarlet Flax, Perennial Lupine, Shirley Poppy, Black-eyed Susan, Sweet William, Russell Lupine and Catchfly.
I have an avocado tree in my yard and I've been trying to figure out what to do with so many avocados. You can only eat them so many ways. (I thought I had heard of an avocado chocolate cake once but I can't seem to find it anywhere. If anyone knows please pass it on to me.) Anywho- I found a couple of recipes to help out with frizzy hair and for a nice face scrub. Both could be very helpful this time of year during the cold and dry winter.
Anti Frizz Avocado Hair Mask
1/2 an Avocado
2 tbs Natural yoghurt
1 tbs Olive oil
10 drops of Jojoba oil
Mash the avocado into the oils and yoghurt to form a creamy paste.
Massage into the hair and leave it in for 10 mins then rinse thoroughly.
Avocado Silk Scrub
1 1/2 tbs of Basic scrub mix (see recipe)
1 tsp Mashed avocado
1 tsp of Fresh cream
| This recipe is perfect for mature skin, the Avocado nourishes and leaves the skin feeling soft and glowing. Mix together to form a paste and apply to a damp face in a gentle circular motion. This recipe will last 1-2 days in a fridge. This recipe makes enough mix for a facial. Increase the quantity of the ingredients to create enough for a full body scrub. | ||||

This one would be a great idea for some redone thrift store art!
I just saw this at Readymade. I was thinking about making something like this for my holiday decore but never did. They are sweet.... maybe they would be nice outside with solar lights inside of them. Oooooo, me likey!
Try This

Valentines Day is just around the corner. Why not surprise your loved ones with custom heart candies.
First step, sand the pre-existing text off of the candy hearts. Place the sandpaper on a flat surface and rub the heart on it in a circular motion. A fairly fine grit will leave a smooth enough surface for writing on, without scratch marks. Oddly enough I found that the non-texted side of a heart doesn’t take up ink as well. It tends to bleed out and feather too much for legibility in this tiny space.
Brush off the powdery sugar residue and pen your own sayings with food coloring markers. The traditional color of ink for Conversational Hearts is red, however, fun could be had mixing up the colors of your text. Rubber stamps may work, if you have ones small enough to fit in the work area of a candy heart.
Give your dirty talking skills a fun practice run on these candies for your Valentine. Now that’s my style of aphrodisiac!

A cherished picture can do more than adorn the mantel. Turn favorite photos of family, friends, or even landscapes into gift labels, envelope decorations, and special journal covers. Symbols meaningful to the recipient, such as gardening tools or fishing flies (left), make wonderful embellishments as well.
You’ll need a black-and-white photocopy of the image you want to use and a Design art marker (available at art-supply stores) in Gray 1 (very light gray). Note: This project will produce a mirror image of your picture; if your original contains any writing, use the reverse option on the photocopier when duplicating.
1. Place the photocopy, print side down, onto the paper surface you want your picture transferred to. Using the gray marker, completely color over the back of the image, holding or taping it down to be sure it doesn’t shift, until the image starts to show through the back of the paper.
2. Let sit for 5 minutes to set and dry, then carefully peel the photocopy away.

A home office is the ideal spot for a family planner. Six weeks' worth of squares in a variety of shades can accommodate several schedules. The entire wall is also coated with chalkboard paint for more memos. Start with a base coat of store-bought black chalkboard paint, and then mix in varying amounts of white chalkboard paint for lighter squares.
Wall Calendar: How-To
We chose 4 shades of paint to make our calendar. You can use as few as 2 shades for a checkerboard pattern.
1. Paint entire wall with store-bought black chalkboard paint (A); let dry for 1 to 2 hours.

2. Mark the perimeter of the calendar with a pencil (to accommodate 8-inch squares, ours measured 48 inches high by 56 inches across).
3. Using painters' tape, mark off the B squares according to the diagram below.
4. Make B paint by mixing 4 parts black chalkboard paint with 1 part homemade white chalkboard paint. Paint B squares. Remove tape. Let dry about an hour.
5. Repeat process for C and D squares using the proportions pictured above.
(For an extra touch, try using magnetic chalkboard paint.)

I was just snooping around Craigslist and I found these drying racks for FREE! If I lived in San Fransisco i would have scooped them up so fast and never told you but since I'm not there someone else should get them fast!

Remember those silly potholders we all made when we were kids? This is a giant version of that! I will definitely make one of these for my little Salamanders room!

What would be better with your checkerboard cake than a beautiful latte' like one of these? Click here to see a video of some lattes being made. Click here for a photo set on Flikr of latte art.

Checkerboard cakes are the best! I've made a ton of them. They are super easy to make and they look so impressive! It's the perfect birthday cake too because you can mix the flavors so that you and your guest have favorite flavors. Use boxed mix if your not a confident in the kitchen or try one of your granny's secret cake recipes.

I would love to have these on hand with me at all times! I hate when people do douchie things. I can totally make these myself too!

This is a nifty little way to reuse some old sheets or any other thin fabric that really would not do so well for anything else. Make a nice shopper tote or a gift bag for someones special birthday present.
