chapeau à fourrure

I really think these hats are fantastic! In my party girl days I had quite a few furry hats to get through winter. In present day, one of my favorite gifts for my baby was a big furry pink cap for her. You could totally DIY this for yourself or as a gift by simply following a pattern but exchange the fabric for fur. To get that "nappy" look to it, spray it with hairspray and then twist it with your fingers like you would with your own hair.
One thing that I do want to add to this is the way that this Etsy seller had so much fun with the photos and made it look like an avant garde fashion photo shot. I think that Etsy gets soooo much attention and I am always excited to see sellers take it serious and use their resources by hiring/hitting up a friend to take some great photos.

I like this chair, it looks like it could walk around on by itself. It is also a good use for scrap wood if you wanted to make your own. I think it makes a nice high back chair or your could lay it down on its back to make a lounge chair. Totally versatile!

Box Shelving

This is another cool idea that I think could easily be done with scraps of wood, a hammer and nail by simply making boxes in random sizes. As cool as it is that Derek Welsh has his wrapped around corners, your doesn't have to be so complicated. You could arrange your on a flat wall and it would be just a great!

You are driving in a car at a constant speed.

On your left side is a 'drop off', (The ground is 18-20 inches below the level you are traveling on), and on your right side is a fire engine traveling at the same speed as you.

In front of you is a galloping horse, which is the same size as your car and you cannot overtake it. Behind you is a galloping zebra.

Both the horse and zebra are also traveling at the same speed as you.

What must you do to safely get out of this highly dangerous situation?

For the answer, click and drag your mouse from star to star.

Snow Globes

Here is a nice tutorial for making your own snow globes. I recall seeing something similar last year at Readymade using glitter instead of crushed mothballs and also they used a bit of liquid glycerine, I think that was to thicken the water to prevent bubbles.

Tee Many Martoonies

We had a great weekend! Look at a couple of the neat things we found at the flea market. This fantastic Lanco watch. I think Mr Hubby is offended that I don't wear a "time piece" When he saw this one he quickly plunked down a wod of cash because he knew that I would love it. And get a load of that Samsonite pink briefcase with the awesome lining! Couldn't you just see some sexy secretary in a high waisted pencil skirt showing up to work with that back in the day?
We also found this clever little Mirage Bowl at the flea market. You put something inside it, then put the lid on it and then the objects actually looks like it is floating above it! It's cool as hell!
Afterwards we went to a favorites restaurant on the beach for mango martinis and big fat juicy burgers. Then a stroll down main street before jetting off to the boat for of afternoon of boating. The sea was angry yesterday but it was a blast!
It's amazing how a kid free day can make you feel like...well, it was just a nice day and I will leave it at that.

Del Moro Ladies' Soft Felt Cloche with Stitching

I really like this Felt Cloche with Stitching. I don't know if its the triangular stitching , the unique side fold or maybe its the sweet string bow. I think it is something that could easily be duplicated or perhaps you could alter a hat that you already own.

Whatta Sleek Daybed

I think this would be an easy DIY. You could use an old (or new) crib mattress, they are covered in a waterproof fabric that would be great for outdoor use. You could either sew a cover for it or simply glue one on. The slatted base seems like a great way to use up some left over hardwood flooring. (you might know of someone who has some if you don't) The casters could be yanked off of an old microwave cart or some other wheelygig that you have laying around. What I love most about this daybed is the bolstered pillows and how they are attached using straps. I think the straps could also be old belts....

You Light Up My Life

This certainly is not a new idea but I just thought that while we were on the subject of the bedroom I thought I would show you this idea as well. I don't want to make you feel foolish by having to explain this to you but after all, that is the nature of this blog, to show you how "anything they can do we can do better"!
Simply take 3 lampshades and cover them with whatever fabric your hearts content. Then glue them together, one right side up then next is upside down them again right side up, ect. Use a glue gun to attach them to each other. If you need lamp shades you can pick them up for a steal at any thrift store, yard sale or even new at just about any large suburb. Use a spray adhesive (again, any large suburb store). Now here is the part that you thought you may have needed an electrician for- pick up a very basic lamp from Ikea or a thrift store (is where I found one) You may even already have one. Or for a hanging light, pick up one of these nifty light kits from Ikea, Pier 1 or Cost Plus World Market. Then just attach the shades to said lamp using either their directions or your own 2 cents.

Use A Branch As A Towel Bar

I spotted this over at Design Sponge and thought about this cabinet that I redid a number of years ago and used branches that I had stripped of the bark as handles. It looked really nice in an organic/modern kind of way.

Let's Go To Bed

This is a quick 'how to' make a platform bed that houses under bed storage.
And below is what I think would make a beautiful headboard for such a bed. Just trace a flower design or perhaps a brocade design to a sheet of ply, use your jigsaw to cut out the design. A smooth sanding and a clear coat is all thats left now. This one is by Paola Navone, it looks like the flower is floating in the center. I think with some back lighting this would be absolutely stunning! Hey- and while your at it, how about those tables too?

These playful, naughty and just a bit risqué confections are sure to get the party started! Simple directions and 110 color photographs make recreating all 20 cakes at home a snap, and each of the designs can be further modified for endless variations. Decorators get instructions for making and using their own sugar glue, edible modeling paste, icings, and sugar support sticks in original designs which emphasize humor, rather than shock value. The designs are suitable for both men and women, and include a Hunky Firemen cake, the Almost Full Monty, Tunnel of Love, Pole Dancers, and Roly Poly Strip-a-Gram cakes, all sure to create quite a memorable impression at the next stag or bachelorette party, college graduation, or birthday celebration.

I love what your wearing, where did you get it?

In case you have not noticed Popgloss yet, go check it out. Its a really cool site that I manage daily. Its full of fashion ideas and here are a few DIY ideas from it.

Here is a great tutorial for making these lovely lace earrings.

Mirror mirror on the, err, on my neck. Who's the fairest one of all? I kinda like this silly little necklace. It has both a modern feel and a Victorian feel. This could easily be duplicated using those disc mirrors that you find at the craft store glued to just about any old crappy necklace using the right glue.

Here a a pattern for a knitted ladder scarf. If you don't knit and you still want this oh so cool look, just pick up a couple of yards of white fleece and cut it to a size that you like. Then every other inch cut a line into it about an inch from each side.
I think this would be very easy to use by using a 4x4 scrap of wood, a scroll saw or one of those big drill bits used to cut holes for dead bolt locks. Put a nice smooth finish on it and vwolla!

This is Mari Santos. She does one of the best T shirt hacks I've seen in a long time. Her site is very inspiring and has made me pull out my copy of Generation T to try to hack a few shirts of my own.
