Yawn

I'm having a hard time waking up today so I thought I would post some bedroom ideas.

While snooping around Vitamin D Shop I found this bed. I find the cover to be really inspiring. It is such a simple idea and yet it makes a huge statement. You could make our own so easily using other blankets in your home. Yours doesn't have to be so minimal. You could do one side patchwork and the other side a solid. The possibilities are endless!
But get this- thats not what they are selling here! They are selling the cork headboard that is nothing more than a stenciled roll of cork drawer liner. I think you could just roll it out on the lawn, toss some leaves across it (more leaves on one side) and spray paint over them to have a similar effect.

I love this giant wall decal. Perfect for the modern day knitter. And that vintage looking orange quilt is so yummy. I'm a huge fan of orange! And brown. And robins egg blue. And any green except that 80's forest green.

This paint technique really appeals to me. I once painted my shop walls using left over paint and a 2 inch paint brush. I had an artist friend paint a mural on one of the walls and after watching her paint for a month I used the left over paints to paint the rest of the shop. I had about 5 pints worth of reds yellows and oranges that were given to me by friends. The end result was stunning. It was so warm and so rich that I actually did nothing to the walls for 5 years (which is a record for me). These walls in particular remind me of charcoal drawings.

I love love love the 2 headboards bellow. My husband and I are already trying to figure out how to make the first one. We have been contemplating getting a CNC machine so this just gives us one more reason to get one.
The second one looks super easy to make. Just make a simple frame and weave wide strips of fabric or leather over it.

Carrie Basket Review

A reader emailed me today to say that they were debating on purchasing the Carrie basket and wanted my review on it. So here it is- I love it!
I think it adds that unique vintage-ish and still modern feel that I love so much. My other alternative was wicker and I'm just not a wicker kinda gal. The white looks great with my blueberry bike too. It also holds a gob of stuff. I think it might be a bit larger than your average bike basket.
Once you install the super easy bracket, the basket pops on and off in a second. The idea behind the basket is that you can flip it over and use it as a table during a picnic. I have not done that yet but I'm so sure that I will soon.

Notice the WeeRide Kangaroo Child Bike Seat too. I love that soooooo much. We purchased it right before Sophie turned 1 and this is her at 2 1/2. She still fits in it and probably will for another year. I cannot imagine putting her on the back. The weight is so well balanced with her there and she can see everything, and we can talk to each other and sing while riding. And she can ring the bell and shout "WHOO HOO!" and wave hi to everyone along the way, even the homeless guys smoking pot in the park. Good times....

I am totally embarrassed about the Easyrider seat. tee hee. I just wanted to be comfortable. I swear my butt isn't big at all!

I Hate the Hyatt

Here are some shots from our room for the Long Beach Grand Prix. We stayed at the Hyatt. We paid a gazillion dollars for it 6 months ago. When my husband went there to make the reservations they told him that we can get up to 6 people in with all access to the races including a bar on the 16th floor. Not true! They told us that there would be a special buffet on the roof that cost $180 per person. They neglected to tell him that you still had to buy a general admission pass along with that.

They tried to charge us a $15.00 per bottle corkage fee for the bottles of wine that were trying to bring in! We didn't even pay that much for the stinkin wine.

The security bullied us when we tried to use a cart to move our luggage and insisted that by law we have to use a bell-hop. WTF? My 2 year old daughter was sitting on the cart and one of the security guys tried to physically move her off of it saying that their insurance didn't cover children on the carts. I had to demand him to remove his hands from my child. And then a bell-hop flew by pushing a cart at top speed with 2 children on top of the huge pile of luggage! At that point we wanted nothing to do with any of the staff there, let alone having to tip them and their nasty attitudes.

It just really felt like we could not take 3 steps without being told what we can and can't do or charged for something else that we thought was included in the original cost. The whole thing was so poorly planned and very ungracious.

The view was nice and it was super cool seeing the races from that perspective.

It is kinda hard to get a snapshot of a car that is moving 220 mph.
We were there with a few of our European friend who thought it was cool seeing all the white trash everywhere. Ha! I actually didn't feel like there was any white trash there but that might just be my Ohio/Kentucky roots talking.....

Cookie Sutra

I think this is just the funniest thing I have seen in a long time. A perfect shower gift, or for those of you who have "girly parties".
"Birds do it, bees do it. And guess what—cookies do it, too. In fact, never have a pair of gingerbread cookies looked so pleased. Yes, the Kama Sutra meets the Joy of Cooking. Featuring an unabashed gingerbread couple, who are photographed in unflinching full color, the The Cookie Sutra is a recipe for pleasure.

There is The First Posture, where two are yoked as one (yet the calorie count remains unchanged). The Pair of Tongs, allowing the woman to be open, free, sweet and crunchy. Pounding the Spot, requiring the suppleness of freshly rolled dough. There is Scissors, Autumn Dog, Tripod, The Wheelbarrow, The Snake Trap. And, for the advanced and adventurous, The Suspended Congress—great care must be taken lest the cookies crumble. "

The Cookie Sutra

And look what else I found! Cookie Sutra cookie cutters! A bit pricey but a must have for any cookie baker.

Polyvore

Here are a few things that I have found to be quite inspiring this week. I hope you do too. They all seem like such simple things to create and easy alterations that you can do to some of your existing pieces. Just click on the picture, it will take you to Polyvore where you can get the links.
Polyvore is a really cool site that lets you bookmark items and then arrange them to create a perfect outfit. I tend to use it as just a simple place to book mark things and see how they will look on the other sites I do.

Sea Lion Woman

We are back from our little trip. We moved our boat from So Cal to No Cal.

Weeks of preparations and a full day to load it and we are finally off.

A day later and we have finally 'landed'.

It really is amazing at how easily these guys move big giant boats around all day. They found a little broken piece that needed to be repaired before it was hauled (boat talk for plopped back in the water). The shaft (bolt that hold a sacrificial zinc plate so that the whole boat doesn't corrode). So a day later and a grand for the fix and $200 on a really sweet ass hotel we were finally back in the water.

The highlight of her trip was seeing the sea lions. She still walks around the house making sea lion noises. How to you spell that sound?

I have always wondered why the Golden Gate Bridge wasn't gold colored...

The view from our slip (boat talk for our dock).

Sea Lion Woman by Feist. While this is not my favorite song of hers, it did seem appropriate.
