So this will allow me to justify my purchases more. tee hee. So check in often to see if there is something you might be interested in.

Teenager Audio Test

Train Horn

Created by Train Horn

Can you hear the sound in the clip at this site? It can usually only be heard by people under the age of 25. It’s a pretty annoying sound. I have heard that people use this sound to keep unwanted teenagers from loitering in certain places. Also- some teenagers use it as a ringtone.

I just came back from the thrift store where I scored 2 really neat books.
Tiny Treasures shows you how to make a bunch of dollhouse sized house hold items. Like a lamp using a golf tee and a paper muffin cup as the shade. Or a mini grill using parts from those plastic prize capsules from vending machines and the thing that keeps the pizza box off of the pizza. Super clever!
Green Crafts for Children was a total prize too.35 projects using recycled and found objects.

Youstupidmotherfucker

Have you ever started a project that you thought you could whip out in just a few short hours but instead it turns into 2 days worth of misery? Well then- I would like to introduce you to our new little friend named "Youstupidmotherfucker" !

Notice the "band-aid" on his side? That is to cover the busted seam. And the scarf? to hide his hideous stitches.
Oh well- Sophie loves him, and feels bad for his boo boo....

I'm not feeling so good today. Yesterday my big sister Kim happened to be in town so we spent the day together. I haven't seen her in several years. At the end of our lunch, I had some really disturbing dizzy spell that I swear was a mild stroke. I am waaaaay to young for that shit. It felt like my right eye was just spinning round and round. Kim said I was googly eyed for a minute. Then I was dizzy and flush all over for another minute. When I took a drink of water it drooled out of my mouth. That all passed in a few minutes leaving me drained for several hours.
I'm off to the doctor to see if he can figure it out, which I doubt he can. And I'll bet you $100 that fucker makes me take a pregnancy test. He is so concerned with my sex life, the big perv.

Norwegian designer Helen Johannesen has made an ecosmart alternative to writing on paper; a ceramic note pad that can be used over and over again.

I think this is such a clever idea and something that everyone could do by just using a $0.42 ceramic tile and an oil pencil. Add felt feet to the back so it does not scratch your desk.

update- i should have added, that whenever we have parties we have water coolers with various drinks in them and i always write on the outside with dry erase markers. my husband freaked out the first time i did it because the coolers cost a pretty penny and he thought i used a sharpee. in the end it wiped right off with a dry towel. so if you don't want to use an oil pencil try a dry erase marker.

Look at this sweet little guy I found at the flea market today for $8.00! He was designed by Freeman China for GG George. I don't know where to put him, so for now he is just watching me post things to Craigslist. (it's amazing the stuff you find when clearing out a 15,000ft warehouse...)
I spent a little time snooping around the web to see if I could find a value on my new friend so that I could justify buying him to Mr.Hubby. I was hoping to find some antique site selling him for, you know, maybe 5-6 thousand bucks. Give or take. The only place I found him was on Ebay so if anyone else wants one you have until Feb 21-09 17:55:29 to bid. Click here.

Meanwhile check out some of the cool stuff I'm selling on Craigslist.

No Names

The "No Names" by Elisabeth Higgins O'Connor make me so happy. I want to see them. I hope I can find the time to get to the David Salow Gallery before Feb 28th....
"Based in Sacramento, California, Elisabeth Higgins O'Connor works both two dimensionally and sculpturally. Her work was recently on exhibition at CUE Arts Foundation in New York City, summer 2006. Chocolate Moose

I just thought I would share one of the easiest and yummiest chocolate desserts I could think of since VD day is this weekend. AND I will even write it like a real recipe!

-1 box Jello instant pudding (any flavor so long as its chocolate)
-1 cup whole milk
-1 cup whipping cream (you know- that old fashion stuff they sell next to the half and half)
Using an electric mixer, mix the pudding powder, milk and whipping cream until peaks are formed. About 2-4 minutes.
Serve in your pretties little glasses with tiny spoons and garnish of your choice.

Big Cartel

I stumbled on a site last year called Big Cartel. A place to buy and sell thing that seemed to favor music labels and clothing but now seems to have opened up to crafters as well. I quickly forgot about until now. I just finished opening 2 shops because get this- it's free for up to 5 items! After that they offer 2 different upgrades at $9.99 and $19.99. With the upgrades you get to use your own url if you want to. I don't know about you but my wee little Etsy bill is about $10.00 a month. Lets see if they send me mean little emails about using the word fuck the way Etsy does....

I really like this ring by featured Etsy artist Adorn Jewelry, but I have to say I'm a bit disappointed that it is only faux moss. I think it would be better to have a living ring actually be living. So today I am actually going to go to my local craft store to look for ring blanks and then my local garden center to look for moss. And then maybe hit up a few thrift stores. Bye!

Second Hand So Cal

For those of you living in Southern California- I thought I would share some of my favorite second hand shops with you. For those of you not living in So Cal, click here.
Now keep in mind that my favorites are the ones where I know I will find a bargain. I do not like going into secondhand stores where it is obvious that the owner just scours thrift stores and then marks up the price to sell it again to you. I like big dirty places that have quick turnarounds on their merchandise because the best way to find cool stuff at thrift stores is to go often. We map out errands by which thrift store we will be popping in on. And while I do still go to Goodwill I tend to not buy much from them as they seem to have turned into a "Target outlet store" so I will not be including them in this post.

When I first moved to California we lived in Oceanside for awhile so I will start there with DAV. We then moved up the coast to San Clemente where you will find Laura's House of Treasures and The Salvation Army , my 2 favorites down there. A little further up the Road you will find a St Vincent dePaul (not the best one tho) and a couple of others not worth mentioning.
Up the 405 to Laguna Hills you will find another St Vincent dePaul. My favorite I think. Loaded with junk! We bought an awesome mid century modern bedroom set for $125.00. A really nice Bulova clock for $1.00 and millions of other things. Close to there is a Salvation Army and a Goodwill.

Rags to Riches was a consignment store in Newport Beach that just changed into a thrift store and they rock! We actually spent a few hours in there when they first opened up.

It just occurred to me that I neglected to mention that while all of these store do sell clothing, I do not thrift shop for clothing. I do look at leather jackets, hand bags, wallets, belts and shoes and have found some real gems hiding in there but when it comes to clothing the only direction I can give you is 4th St in Long Beach. You can make an afternoon of the 2 blocks of vintage clothing and furniture stores and 2 nice thrift stores. While you are there you have to get some noodles from number nine.

I didn't think we were allowed to use that word any longer....

In the Long Beach area we have a few worth mentioning. South Street Thrift Store is a good one. There is a thrift store next to the Zion Market in Hawaiian Garden who's name escapes me. Salvation Army in Anaheim almost always does half price on Saturdays. There is also a Salvation Army in Long Beach We scored a Saarinen table and chairs for $200 and and awesome arched lamp for $12 along with may other item.

That's about it for my favorite thrift stores but let us not forget the awesome flea markets in So Cal! Pasadena City College flea market on the first Sunday every month and free! Rose Bowl flea market is on the second Sunday every month, $8.00. Long Beach flea market- third Sunday of every month, $5.00. (coupon available on web site) The Santa Monica flea market- 1st and 3rd Saturday each month.

Now that I have shared my secret shopping places I think it is only fair that you tell me yours! I would love to find some new places and I am also dying to find some good estate sale sources and auction houses.
