I spent yesterday weatherproofing my patio furniture. We bought this furniture from Target 2 years ago. It was part of their new found friendship with Smith and Hawkins. The stuff is terrible! I have had to add bating to the wimpy pillows. The planks in the coffee table have warped. I tried to redye the covers (with no luck) because they quickly changed to a yucky sun washed color. And now today- the final straw, as a way to salvage them for at least one more season, I used a brown tinted treatment on them. It did help quite a too. Not as good as they once were but they will do.
Now I need a centerpiece for the table and I thought this one by Nini Makes would make the perfect piece. The playfulness of it will go so nicely with the pool, I think.

Summertime!!!!
We bought an older RV last night! (Recreation Vehicle or caravan for you Europeans. I wish we called them caravans here...) It's not the one pictured but I had to show this photo again because I want our RV to be this sweet, or better. I will have photos of it at a later date, we don't take possession of it until next week. We are going to have some work done on it to make it more fuel efficient.
We also put up Sophie pool a few days ago. For those of you with toddlers and small children, the Intex pool is the best invention ever. It comes with a filtration system so you don't have to dump it out each week. Sophie will spend an hour in it and then be all hungry and sleepy for a few hours. Bliss.

I am so overwhelmed with clutter in my house right now. I thought that selling stuff on Etsy would be fun but I am finding that it has turned my house into a thrift store! Plus I have a mountain of shipping supplies, (see below). I think I am going to take my loot to the flea market this weekend and just get rid of it so that I can gain control over the house.

Just trying to show Sophie what an otter is. Honestly, I just don't know how people raised children without the internet!

The Poison Garden
"The author Amy Stewart, 39, who has written three books on the plant world, grows poisonous plants in the garden outside her home in Eureka, Calif. Foxglove, opium poppies and castor beans, among a total of about 30 varieties of toxic plants, are thriving in her garden."
"Ms. Stewart’s poison garden was begun three years ago, when she started working on the book. She wanted a writer’s garden, so she put in a wooden chair, a desk, the bones of a floor lamp. There are also books, some half buried, others nailed to shelves in such a way that their pages turn in the breeze. Disintegrating, they fit in surprisingly well, returning to the earth as naturally as a cornfield after harvest. “Autopsy for an Empire,” with its dried-blood-colored jacket, is planted beside the hellebore, which the Greeks used to poison the water of their enemies. P. D. James’s “Original Sin” and Stephen King’s “Salem’s Lot” sit on a bookshelf, which is also disintegrating.
“These were moldy or torn,” Ms. Stewart says. “I’m not destroying books that had any sort of life in them. I just wanted the sense that the book I’m writing is coming out of the ground. If you put a book in the ground, will you get 10 little baby books out of the ground?” (i love that last line!)
"Ms. Stewart looks through a plant book in her attic. The vials in her apothecary kit once contained poisons and antidotes."
I spotted this Apothecary Bottle Set with Leather Case yesterday for purchase at Three Potato Four and thought it would make a great add on to this story.
Go to The New York Times for more photos on this amazing and scary garden. Or here for the full article.
Also watch this video to find out what she is all about and more about her latest book Wicked Plants.

Yodel Lay He Hoo
I had a very exciting weekend of antiquing! I have added tons of new stuff to the shop and still have a bunch more to go.
While I was out, I kept running into the same theme, this sort of Dutch/Bavarian and woodland creatures thing, which I love love love! So what did I do? I started another Etsy shop! Yodel Lay He Hoo. It fulfills my childhood memories. I hope you all enjoy it and possibly find some new treasures for yourself.
I spotted this colorblock cushion at Paper and Stitch today. It's nice. But what I really like here are the yarn wrapped beer bottles!

Tilt-shift Maker
Bathtub IV from Keith Loutit on Vimeo.
I have been having fun with Tilt-shift Maker all afternoon thanks to How About Orange.
"Tilt-shift style photos are photographs of real life scenes that are made to look like miniature scale models. And Tilt-shift Maker is a website that will fake it for you: upload your digital photo and it's manipulated to look like a miniature model."

Do dogs go to heaven?
The Catholics are displaying a much better sense of humor! You get the impression that the Presbyterians are actually taking this seriously and are getting a bit upset...

Imagine this if you will- move all of your bedroom stuff into your child's bedroom, then move your sewing room into the garage (freshly converted into an office), then move your child's room into the old sewing room, then turn your old bedroom into said child's playroom (thats where she spends all of her time anyway) (and demand that no toys shall leave that room! good luck with that huh?), then move new offices into your ex-gameroom making that whole "wing" of the house as the adult playroom.
Well, That is what we are going to do! And if all goes well Sophie will sleep in her own room, in her own bed (see above) that we bought for her last year when Bombay Company went out of business. We still have not put it together for fear that she will fall off of it, but I guess she can handle it now...

Holy Birzaro World Batman!
"This award winning doll received both "Most Creative" at the 2006 Foster Old Home Days fair, Foster, RI and "Best in Show" at the 2006 Woodstock Fair, Woodstock, CT.
She is anatomically correct, as is her newborn son!
Her embellishments include a wedding ring, earrings and necklace and her son has a tiny belly button, made with a real button to which the umbilical cord attaches.
She makes a great addition to any midwifery practice, or for any birth professional that works with siblings. "
Cozy Coleman offers this doll as a make your own pattern for $14.98 and as an already made doll for $120.00. She even offers layaway!

I am working on adding some new stuff to my Etsy shop. Some of it has sold within minutes of posting it so don't delay if you see something you like act fast. Thank you.

U-Tube
From the site- "In these uncertain times we went back to basics, and inspired by the seemingly endless creative challenges of the hardware store, U-tube sprouted to life.
Hommage to global industrial archetypes, this tubular design is available in an oil-lamp or a candlestick version.
The split arms allow for easy conversation while enjoying the soothing glow of this stunning centerpiece.
Its use of heavyweight and oversized materials, sturdy powder coated finish and the lack of electrical parts, make this light virtually everlasting!"

This is such a stunning way to display a centerpiece for a dinner party. Notice the directional light which makes the tulip shine. It was created by Joost Bakker.
