Make A Great Patio Rug

We've all seen them, those wannabe-real grass mats. Have you considered designing your own template, tracing it on the back of that astro turf you find at the big hardware store, and cutting your way to a new look?

Dutch magazine 101 Woonideeen has a template on their website (.pdf) that you can download, enlarge, and use to create a fresh take on an otherwise boring rug. You can also try animal shapes, from a bunny to a dog, or even insects, like a butterfly. The directions here are in Dutch but here is a neat site that translates for you. www.babelfish.altavista.com/tr
this is what they translated ("grass moquette buys you of the role, is cut super-simple or cuts and frays. An ideal material therefore for decorative applications. The pattern of this floor mat to see you on this page. Copy it and increased from, leg on the grass moquette, snij from and you floor mat around is. Still what grass? Leg it on such a metal shoe rack and you has a matching functional accessory.")
Weird huh? But I don't think you need too many instructions on this one, just jump in with your scissors and have fun!

Transform an Old Table

I see tables shaped like this one at thrift stores all the time for just a few dollars. I love how this table feels vintage and modern all at the same time. Its also a nice way to spruce up for spring! Just paint it white, dip the legs in a shiny paint, then paint a simple spray of flowers on the top corner. This would also be a great kids room table. Just use and old coffee table instead!

This One's A Snap!

I so love felt. I'm always on the hunt for a nice new tray for which to hold trinkets. Snaps are so much fun to attach. Sssssssooooooo..... what does that mean?

Slap down your felt, cut a big circle (perhaps with a record as a template) snap on some snaps and save $42 bucks!

Shoulder Tote

I love tote bags! I think they are very useful. The are also quite easy to make. I never would have thought of reshaping a tote like this one for $850.00 into a shoulder bag! How clever......does anyone know where to find patent leather by the yard?

Cara Barer Photography

Texan photographer Cara Barer takes absolutely beautiful photographs of books - worn, tattered, curled up old books.
Cara gets the effect by soaking books in her bathtub...

"
My photographs are primarily a documentation of a physical evolution. I have changed a common object into sculpture in a state of flux.

The way we choose to research and find information is also in an evolution. I hope to raise questions about these changes, the ephemeral and fragile nature in witch we now obtain knowledge, and the future of books."

I have a table that something like this would really stand out on!

Paper Pots

I'm gearing up to plant a garden. I started my seedlings last month, I bought all the right tools, I tilled the yard and planned everything out. Today was supposed to be the big day. I skipped work to plant all of my delicious veggies and smelly flurs. But alas- it's raining, nay pouring. My vacant flower beds now have 2 inches of water pooling atop them. So I'm trapped inside, glued to my computer as usual and what did I find for you? A great tutorial for making paper pots! I wish I would have known about this before I started my seeds, I could have saved a bundle by using paper pots rather than those neato pop up Jiffy pots. I also found one more thing for you- A nifty tool that will make the pot for you!

DIY Modern Pendant

While your at it (making lamp shades) check out this ultra cool idea from Instructables. Its very similar to the ones sold here for hundreds of dollars. They show you how to make this modern pendant light using cheap material and a little elbow grease. I'm going to try to make mine using bamboo veneer! Record Bowls In Record Time

Record bowls are so easy and fun to make. It's amazing what some people charge for them. I made them a few years ago as Christmas presents and stuffed them with homemade cookies. I tried to find colored records but quickly realized just how rare they are. ( I found one red one but I don't think I want to melt it now.) I like this pen holder idea. Here is a quick how to make your own bowls and what nots.

Concrete Tea Light

Wow- I saw this being made on HGTV a few years ago. They used a milk carton, poured concrete in it, let it dry a bit, then put a tea light in it just to add the hole, pulled it out and let it dry the rest of the way. And there ya have it! Or you could purchase this one for $50.00.

Bunny Fold Napkins

Easter rabbit-shaped napkins are a festive detail for the holiday table, and they only require a few simple folds. Well-starched crisp cotton or linen will transform into the sturdiest bunnies. Fold napkins the day before your meal so your "warren" is full when guests arrive.

1. Fold starched napkin into thirds.

2. Crease in half to create a center line for reference; fold top corners down along this line.

3. Fold up from bottom corners along dotted lines.

4. Bring left and right edges together on center line.

5. Flip upside down and over. Turn up bottom point.

6. To fasten: Fold left and right corners back; tuck one corner into the pocket of the other. Pull out bunny ears first; open up base.

Bunny Biscuits

Ingredients
2 cups Martha White® Self-Rising Flour
3 tablespoons sugar
1/3 cup butter or margarine
1 egg
1/2 cup milk, approximately

1 . Heat oven to 450° F. Lightly grease a large cookie sheet. Stir together flour and sugar in mixing bowl. With pastry blender or fork, cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Beat egg in measuring cup; add enough milk to make 2/3 cup. Add egg mixture to flour mixture; stir with fork until dough forms and mixture begins to pull away from sides of bowl.
2 . On lightly flour surface, knead dough just until smooth. Roll out dough to 1/2 –inch thickness.
3 . For each bunny cut one 2-inch round for body, three 1-inch rounds for head and ears (roll two of these between hands to lengthen for ears) and one ½-inch round for tail. Assemble bunnies on prepared baking sheet by placing largest round on baking sheet; place medium round just above for head, place lengthened pieces at top of head; and place smallest round near bottom of body for tail.
4 . Bake at 450° F. for 10 to 12 minutes or until golden brown.
