Lisa Coris Designs

I am just in awe of the simplistically modern style of Lisa Coris. Definitely give her site a look if you are interested in some ridiculously low cost baubles. She will even take trades!
Lisa says "I live in san francisco; I work as a full-time recruiter (and don’t call me a headhunter please!) for the advertising industry; I’m a third world travel junkie and pick up beads and pendants wherever I go; I believe you can never eat too much chocolate; I love trading my creations for other goodies; and for some inexplicable reason, I enjoy jumping in photos (taking a rest here).
If you need a necklace, photograph, painting, my old stuff or just want to talk about traveling drop me a line."

Vote for Slideyman

Oscar from Neatorama writes "So here’s the scoop: I’m about to turn 30 - this friday in fact. Also: I love waterslides. Then I found a competition which, if I get enough votes, will send me around the world to the biggest watersldies there are. Best Present. Ever. This is my entry. Did it in an hour.

If you like it and fancy voting me into a state of splashy swooshy ecstasy, Vote for Slideyman in the Barclay Waterslide video competition. Just click the green thumbs up! Link

Love and Waterslides,

Raise your hand if you are financially fucked

Sophie and I made cupcakes today to mark the mood of the household. Gone are the days of comfort. Hi Ho, it's back to the struggle we go. Damn this fucking economy! Damn the banks for calling in our bank loans just because they need money! Is that even legal? Damn that runny icing!
We'll get through this tho, we have plenty of ideas in our noggins. How are you all holding up?

Columnar Apples

I forgot to mention this cool little apple tree. Perfect for apartment (and boat!) dwellers who love apples.
"Now you can grow delicious, full-sized apples in a sunny corner of the garden or in a pot on your patio. These special vertical varieties grow up to 10' tall, but their branches don't spread. With minimal pruning, you can maintain their slim profile and keep fruit in easy reach. We ship one Northpole™ and one Golden Sentinel™ to ensure good pollination."

I was just thumbing through a Gardeners.com catalog when I spotted this rainwater urn. I love this idea! I happen to have a spot on my house that could use a rainchain and this urn. Problem is that it never rains in So Cal, but if I lived in Seattle this urn would be mine! What would I do with all that water....

I told you that I would tell you about my little "hydroponic thing"... Mr. Hubby and I have always dreamed of living on a 100 ft yacht and traveling the globe. Our biggest obstacles are that we would want it to be self sufficient. No gasoline. Solar powered, yadda yadda. We decided that one of the things that I could bring to this would be to learn how to grow our food hydroponically on board to sustain us.
So I started to do some research when get this- We just moved out of our 15,000 sq ft. warehouse and it just so happens that the leading hydroponic equipment dealer here in So Cal is moving in. AND get this- they need a forklift and we found ourselves left with one. Not the big one, someone bought that thank God. So Mr. Hubby worked out a trade with them and I should have $3000.00 worth of hydro gear here in the next few weeks.
We also happen to have this concrete pad in our back yard where a garden shed once sat. We are planning to build a new shed to house the hydro garden. Why a shed and not just a green house you ask? Well, to learn how to grow on a boat means that not only do I have to figure our the whole water system but I also need to learn the artificial lighting part of it and have it all be solar powered. Phew!

pretty picture

All of these seem to be the best ideas for a shed for us and they would match our Cliff May house. I think the one below seems like the most practical fit for us...

I almost forgot that I should totally get one of these for the garden shed!

This little playroom is so sweet. (again-prolly cause it is so orderly) I love the tipi, such a great place to cuddle up with a good book. I found a few places to guide you in making your own. Here ,here and here.
We are planning a neighborhood yardsale in a few weeks. I just tried to clean out Sophie's room of excess toys but quickly realized that it is a job to be done while she is at school. Silly me- I thought there might be a lesson in it....

S.H.I.T. Happens

Ever wonder where the word "shit" comes from. Well here it is: Certain types of manure used to be transported (as everything was back then) by ship. In dry form it weighs a lot less, but once water (at sea) hit it. It not only became heavier, but the process of fermentation began again, of which a by-product is methane gas.
As the stuff was stored below decks in bundles you can see what could (and did) happen; methane began to build up below decks and the first time someone came below at night with a lantern. BOOOOM! Several ships were destroyed in this manner before it was discovered what was happening. After that, the bundles of manure where always stamped with the term "S.H.I.T" on them which meant to the sailors to "Ship High In Transit." In other words, high enough off the lower decks so that any water that came into the hold would not touch this volatile cargo and start the production of methane. Bet you didn't know that one.

Here are a few things I found today

I love these fabric soccer balls by Klas Ernflo. I have often thought about making my own version of them using a hexagon template.

Make your own button trays. Clever!
Swimmers Glasses set of 4 for $22

I like this room. Prolly cause it's clean. My house is still a disaster from the move.
Artist Environments- "From folk art environments to homes, artist environment builders blur the lines and push the boundaries of how we define art. Whether inside/outside the mainstream or inside/outside the gallery, the artists represented in the exhibition explore personal visions that speak to specific locales and histories. More specifically, Inside/Outside examines the artist environment builders who generally transform their homes, yards, or other aspects of their personal surroundings into multifaceted works of art that embody and express the locale—time, era, place—in which each of them live and work."
Has anyone heard of Small magazine? Looks neat. I wonder where I can find it....
Cute little bun buns would be so sweet for my twin niece and nephew for Easter.
This cozy castle by Vera Vera would be so sweet to have right now. Sophie is totally into princesses.
