Necktie Bracelet

This is a neat way to make use of an old tie or perhaps one that has sentimental value. Like that time you chopped off your boyfriend tie because he pissed you off.

I think these pillows are gorgeous in a glam rock boutique hotel kind of way, but for some reason they also reminded me of some ugly bridesmaid dresses that I have worn over the years. Then it hit me! Ah ha! What a great way to commemorate your gal pals wedding and also have a pretty little pillow to sit atop your sofa. Invite the girls over, order a pizza, pop in Pretty In Pink and start slashing those dresses!

Let everyone at the party know which brownies are spiked and which ones aren't by clearly marking them!

I'm a Libra so the fact that autumn is just around the corner excites me a bit. I love all of the super luxe fall gear thats popping up this year like this cashmere hoodie scarf. However, at $245 a pop, I think I can whip up one of my own. It is just a big tube after all, plus they even added the dimensions for me. Length: 22.5in, width: 13.25in. Just add a seam allowance. I happen to have this super soft jersey fabric that I picked up for a steal last month that will be perfect!

This came to me in an email so I have no source, but I thought it was great. Much like the "Feel Your Boobies" campaign. I am just amazed at how many people I know that have dealt with and/or are dealing with this vicious disease.

Madhauscreative Shows how to put a head in a bottle to scare the hell out of your friends and family on Halloween.
I was just looking for a tute to make some wide legged pants for the tot. I thought they would be cozy this fall to romp around the house in. I quickly found this tutorial at Rookie Moms for turning a t shirt into tot pants! Cool!

I was just snooping through Google Images looking for strange kid items to post on YoKiddo and I came across TLC's Stranger Creek Foxtrotters & Rabbitry. It has some of the sweatest images on the kids corner page.

Another great use for your chalkboard paint! I like how the chalk pencil is the support for the easel.

Last-Minute Patchwork + Quilted Gifts looks like a really cool book. I love whipping out little plushies for my tot and I even use them in place of bows on packages. I wonder what other surprises are in this book? I can't wait to get it!
Just leave me yours in the comments or email me. Here is mine-

These magnet rings and snap bracelets seem like a great way to stay attached to one another whilst keeping your hands in a relaxed state. This seems like something you could do with any old ring and possibly using mighty magnets. The bracelets just look like simple sewn bracelets or maybe an old watch band with magnetic purse closures
that are found at most craft stores. I think this might be a sweet gift for a young couple. But what I love most about all of this is the packaging! Last week my 9 month old refrigerator crapped out on me and I had to dump a bunch of food including all of my fancy jams and mustards. Some of the jars were too cute to toss out and seeing this has shown me a new use for them, gift packaging! My fav!

I found this over at Neatorama. I think it would make a terrific giftie. I have spent the better part of the day trying to find a free downloadable butter wrapper to print out but am having no luck. If anyone knows of such a site please leave it in the comments for us.
There are plenty of transparent printer paper out there, your best source is Michael's Crafts for Martha Stewart's new line of paper's or you local scrapbooking supply store. Michael's will also carry shea butter soap in a raw block that you can add smells and colors to. A touch of yellow should make it butter colored. Add a dash of fragrance such as milk or honey (or both) for that buttery goodness. I think once I figure out the wrapper I will leave the Satan part off of it. Perhaps just "Body Butter" will do....
This is a rug created by Dan Golden. I cannot stop chuckling, I think it's a great way to politely ask your neighbors to keep their dog from crapping in your yard while also giving them a good laugh in return for the favor. I plan to make a similar one as a sign for my yard. (but I won't put too much hard work into it because I can gare-on-tee it will be stolen)

The Knitted Blog has a great tutorial on making envelopes. I love making envelopes out of my old magazines. I think it's a great way to reuse and it also makes a more interesting way to pay your bills or to send out hand made cards. Speaking of which, has any one ever watched a movie called "How To Draw A Bunny"? It's a documentary about Ray Johnson (Andy Warhol's friend) who never quite reached fame. It's directed by John Waters so it is a definite must see.
"How to Draw a Bunny attempts to both unravel the enigma of artist Ray Johnson's elusive personality and restore him to his rightful place in the pantheon of 20th century American art. An artist whose collages bridged dada and pop art, Johnson occupied a respected if obscure corner of the visual art world. Upon his suicide off Long Island in 1995, he left his friends and associates with a bounty of work and more questions than answers about the man behind such works as "Untitled (Joseph Cornell Just a Face)." Through interviews with subjects from Christo to the sheriff who investigated his suicide, this documentary serves its subject best when it allows the camera to linger on Johnson's work. Those unfamiliar with Johnson's sometimes cartoonish reappropriations of advertising iconography may marvel in much the same way viewers of Basquiat did a decade ago. Here was an artist who transformed every act of his life—even his highly orchestrated death—into a work of art. From letters to canvases to a pair of shoes, Ray Johnson used the world as his medium to create objects of wonder."

It's such a terrific and inspiring movie, especially if you are into avant garde paper craft.
I have been researching how to make felted balls so that I can make these cool felted rocks for what I refer to as 'my art installation'. You see- I have this fountain in my livingroom. It's not just a little tabletop thing. It's actually dug about 2 1/2 feet into the floor and goes up the wall about 5 feet. Its really about the size of a baby pool. It even has a 3x4ish foot garden next to it. It's very 60's tropical, and its really silly. We usually keep it empty because of the tot (too tempting, although she never pays attention to it) It also attracts mosquitoes so for that reason alone, it sits empty. I do fill it for parties though. People love its cheesiness and will actually throw money in it to make wishes. Score for me!
Now back to "my art installation', I am going to fill it with pillows that resemble water and sea life so that said tot can actual interact with it. It's such a silly thing to have in your home so I am just going to play on that and actually try to enjoy it and also enjoy making various sea creatures. Can seahorses and frog co-habitate?
Hey- i just found a picture of it for you, ( I was being lazy and didn't want to get up and take a picture of it and then explain to Mr. Hubby what I was doing)
So my question to you is, has anyone ever made felted beads that would have some advice as to how to make them as smooth as the felted rocks in the above photo?
I thought this was a really cool way to use all of those odd pieces of furniture, crates and drawers that you might have laying around. I have a good start with some of the pieces that I have snatched up at yard sales and thrift stores that have served a purpose at one time or another and are now just resting in the garage waiting to be included in my next yard sale, or perhaps given a new life. I think as a trial run I could start by creating more storage in my craft room.

Check out these hip sweaters from Modtomodern that have been reborn out of old sweaters. I love that idea. I have all of the t shirt surgery books and I am still hanging on to my pre-maternity clothes for just this reason.
Here is a cool little craft that I found on the Better Homes and Garden site a long time ago. I always seem to forget about it during Halloween season. Click here for the full instructions and template.
I just came from the craft supply store and purchased all sorts of goodies to make an attempt at making the poppies and hand soap. Wish me luck!
I found this recipe at Big City Little Kitchen the other day while I was looking for recipes for a cook out that we will be attending in a couple of weeks. I'm not sure if this is the right thing for that yet but it looked way to interesting to not post here.
Gena says "Despite the addition of Guinness, these cakes are not at all bitter; instead, the beer adds richness and moisture, and balances the sweetness of the sugar. Working from another Nigella recipe, this one the Guinness Cake from Feast, I substituted brown sugar for white to add depth of flavor, and made tiny cakes instead of a large one in a springform. Topped with a cream cheese glaze, these are a crowd-pleasing, not-too-sweet dessert (and, if you call them muffins instead of cupcakes, and play up the beer angle, you can easily pass them off to guys). They’re also super-easy."
Cake
Glaze*
Preheat oven to 350; butter a muffin tin.
Combine the Guinness and the butter, chopped into 1-inch chunks, in a large sauce pan, and heat to melt the butter. Remove from heat, and whisk in the cocoa and sugar. In a bowl, whisk the sour cream with the eggs and vanilla, then add to the beer mixture. Sift together the flour and baking soda, and fold into the batter. Pour into muffin molds and bake for 25 minutes, or until inserted cake tester comes out clean. Let stand 10 minutes, remove from muffin tin, and cool completely on a rack.
Using a mixer, whip cream cheese until smooth, sift in sugar, and beat. Add milk, and beat until smooth. Spread glaze over cooled cupcakes.
*To create a thinner glaze, use a tablespoon or two more milk; for a topping more akin to icing, use less milk, and perhaps more sugar. In either case, add a little sugar or milk at a time, mix, and check for desired consistency.

I am really digging these poppies by Alessandro Loschiavo
I think they might be a terrific "flower arrangement" at my little birthday party. It really just looks like he used craft resin, wire, red paper or photo's of flowers and mighty magnets.
